FAQ

What is SAGE?

The Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) is an international organization whose main mission is to promote entrepreneurship education among the young people of today.  SAGE Philippines is the local country network of this worldwide organization.

What is SAGE CUP PHILIPPINES?

It is a business competition for high school students, with the mentorship of college students and local business leaders.  We encourage that business ventures be social enterprises to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit and responsibility to society among Filipino youth.

Following the directive of the Global office, we encourage the various high school teams that are planning to join the competition to align their business ventures with a social cause according to the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals.

What sets it apart from other competitions?

SAGE Cup Philippines is a business-do competition as opposed to a business plan competition.  We have implemented this competition for the past two years, and the champion teams are currently operating their successful businesses.  Moreover, the business ventures do not focus solely on profit, but profit with a social cause.

How does the competition work?

High School students are encouraged to organize themselves into teams of 3-5 members. Each team is required to have at least one Adviser who is a member of the faculty of the High School they go to.  Aside from this, a mentor must also be signed up who is a college student, or an entrepreneur.  A set of entry questions from the www.sagephilippines.org website must be answered and uploaded.  Once the entry passes the screening process, the teams will present their business on January 24, 2009 at the University of the Philippines, Los Banos.  The business entries are judged according to the following criteria:  Ethical Business Practices, Civic Engagement, Environment Sustainability, and Social Responsibility.

Is there an age limit to join the competition?

As long as each student is certified by its High School as one of its students, there is no age limit.  The student must not have graduated from the school before the competition date.  Graduating students are welcome to join.

How many teams can join per high school?

There is no limit as to how many teams can join from a single high school.  However, it is IMPORTANT that a team shall only have a MINIMUM of THREE and a MAXIMUM of FIVE members.

What is the SAGE World Cup?

The SAGE World Cup is the international competition where high school teams from the fifteen country networks or more showcase their businesses and vie for the title of World Cup Champion.  The SAGE WORLD CUP 2009 will be held in Brazil.
